Underfloor heating has been around
since Roman times, but recent advances in material technology
and heat transfer have opened up new possibilities. Today it's
possible to achieve cost-effective warm water underfloor heating
that is energy efficient and gives high performance. One of
the major benefits of underfloor heating is that there are
no radiators, so you have total flexibility in room design
and can make the most of every square foot of floor and wall
space. Best of all, there are no cold spots. Underfloor heating
allows even the largest rooms to have uniform heat, and virtually
eliminates draughts caused by air circulation.
Warm water is circulated through a network of reinforced polyethylene
pipes laid in the floor at the time of construction. Each room
has its own circuit and is individually controlled by a room
thermostat. When the room reaches its pre-set temperature the
thermostat sends a signal to an electrically operated valve
on the manifold closing that particular circuit. The water
is distributed to the pipes through solid one-piece brass manifolds
at between 35-60°C and heats the floor surface to a temperature
in the range of 18-24°C. The floor effectively becomes
one large heat store giving off a gentle, even, radiant heat
to the whole room. |
Underfloor
heating provides an efficient way to heat your home and because
it is invisible when installed, allows you complete freedom
to design your interior the way you want.
Warm water flowing through a network of high quality Pex-a
pipeworks embedded in your floor structure will provide you
with the ideal comfort zone.
People feel more comfortable when they experience warm feet
and a cool head. These conditions are produced naturally
by underfloor heating. There are no localised hot-spots,
just a gentle even warmth throughout the building.
Q - How much does it cost?
A - In domestic properties £13-16/m sq. with full control
system. In commercial and industrial as low as £6/m
sq.
Q - Is it controllable?
A - Yes, floorwarming works on a different principle to convection
systems, but is still easily controlled.
Q - Is it more economical to operate?
A - Yes, savings of up to 20% for domestic & as high
as 50% for commercial.

Underfloor Heating The benefits associated with underfloor
heating make this type of system very attractive as an alternative
to radiator heating:
No radiators, which can reduce accessibility in corridors and
confined spaces.
Even heat throughout the room, heat radiates from the floor
upwards.
Placement of furniture within rooms is not restricted.
System maintenance is virtually eliminated, no radiator valves
to service/replace, no radiators to paint.
Risk of skin burns eliminated - no hot radiators to touch.
Lower energy bills, up to 15% that of conventional radiator
heating
