Rich Heritage
Ideal Stelrad is 100 years old this year. A centenary of innovation, evolution and industry, that began, all those years ago, in Hull when the National Radiator Company was formed. Over the years that followed, Ideal rapidly built a reputation for high quality products that met the ever-changing demands of the marketplace. From taking boilers from basements to kitchens in the 1920s, through to introducing high efficiency technology into the UK in the 1980s, Ideal has consistently been a pioneer in design and engineering.

Today the company remains at the forefront of the domestic and commercial heating markets, still leading the industry in setting new standards and expanding technological boundaries. Ideal Stelrad remains true to it's principles of quality, innovation and value; building on it's rich heritage as it looks to the future.

Ahead of the Game
Ideal Stelrad pre-dates penicillin, television and was manufacturing domestic boilers almost thirty years before the first football World Cup. Starting life 100 years ago, in Hull, the company quickly became established as a leading manufacturer of domestic boilers.

Ideal Stelrad has always strived to meet changing customer needs with pioneering design. In the 1920s, when the market demanded boilers to be placed in kitchens rather than basements as had been the case at the time, Ideal introduced the revolutionary Cookanheat. A combination open fire, central heating boiler, cooking fire and hot cupboard, the Cookanheat did more to introduce central heating into low priced homes than any other manufacturer of the day.

The company has maintained this innovative, technology-led approach throughout its history; from the Cookanheat, to harnessing gas power in the 1930s, through to pioneering high efficiency in the 1980s, Ideal has always been ahead of the game. With major changes for domestic boilers this year (see HE Day page), Ideal was the first manufacturer to offer a full range of condensing boilers that meet new Government legislation.
Ideal Boilers offer two types of boilers, standard-efficiency boilers and high-efficiency boilers.

Ideal Boilers standard-efficiency range of SEDBUK D rated boilers includes the Classic and Mexico, cast iron, floor standing and wall hung ranges, and the Ideal mini range of combination and system boilers.

Ideal Boilers high-efficiency range of SEDBUK A rated boilers includes the market leading icos (heat only) and isar (combination) condensing boilers.
Ideal Boilers are into our fourth generation of HE technology, infact we launched our first HE boiler back in 1985 so we already have a long tradition in High Efficiency. Our latest models the Classic HE and Mexico HE are both are based on familiar technology - the Classic HE is a close relative of the original best-selling Classic SE using accustomed Cast-Iron technology, meaning that the product retains all the original features; easy to install, reliability, well-engineered and well-designed but has been upgraded to meet the revised building regulations.

The Mexico HE is based on Ideal Boilers advanced SEDBUK A rated modular technology developed from our proven Icos HE, with higher outputs being achieved through a development of that technology. So Ideal can offer you HE technology from the ground up!
